As you may be aware, Southend Borough Council are to redevelop the Queensway Estate to include the land that the ‘Range’ home ware store is situated, Malvern, Pennine Quantock and Chilltern tower blocks, the row of homes bordering the site on Sutton Road, the Queensway underpass and the north side of Southchurch Road, incorporating the Essex Street car park. What does this mean for the Storehouse..?

The Storehouse had a fixed term lease that ends in 2019 and as such, will have to move locations as the Better Queensway Development starts to take shape. We have truly been blessed by Southend Borough Council in their provision of this facility and want to thank them for their generosity… however, we do need to find a new space to offer the services we provide. We currently provide support for 1.7% of Southend’s population, which is simply astonishing.

We do think we have found an ideal space in the centre of town, a stones throw from the Better Queensway Development, and close to where many of our guests live and work. We are currently seeking change of use through the planning stages before committing financially to the project.

This will not be cheap. We need to purchase the property for £630.000 and then spend money on refurbishing the facility, potentially another £120,000, and preparing the move from Coleman Street. We want to maintain our service throughout this time and seek sponsors and donations for those who want to contribute to our project.
